As flagship newspaper of the Communist Party of China and the nation's leading news outlet, the People's Daily espouses and actively engages in the promotion of the targeted poverty alleviation, said a senior official of the newspaper.

People's Daily will leverage its strength through in-depth reporting and new media platforms to explain the guidelines and measures made by the central government and present applicable practices which have helped yield tangible results in local governments' battle against poverty, said Lu Xinning, deputy editor-in-chief of the People's Daily at the forum.

A reporting program supported by the newspaper was also launched at the forum, which will be dedicated to digging up successful examples in the campaign against poverty.

Zhan Chengfu, vice minister of Civil Affairs, Xie Jingrong, vice chairman of the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce and representatives from public and private sectors and non-governmental organizations also attended the forum.

The Chinese government is implementing the "three tough battles" that target poverty alleviation and prevent major risks and pollution.

Official data showed that more than 68.5 million rural people had been lifted out of poverty in China over the past five years. That means 37,000 people escaped poverty every single day.

China will reduce the poor rural population by over 10 million in 2018, including 2.8 million people to be relocated from inhospitable areas, and the country will work to ensure the quality of poverty reduction efforts, pledged Chinese leaders.

The forum demonstrated over 40 poverty-reduction cases, aiming to offer a hint on how to round up resources to overcome the most difficult part and reach the goal set to lift more people out of poverty.
