If China and the US could eventually reach a trade deal, the existing newly imposed additional tariffs must be removed, said Ministry of Commerce (MOC) spokesperson Gao Feng.

During a routine press briefing on Thursday, Gao stressed that the US unilaterally imposed tariffs on Chinese products which resulted in the trade friction of the two countries. "The China and US trade teams have been maintaining communication," he said.

Responding to US President Donald Trump's announcement that he will lift the ban on Huawei, Gao said "President Trump announced at a press conference during the G20 summit that the US would allow its companies to sell products to Huawei."

"China hopes the US side will fulfill this promise and stop abusing government power to suppress Chinese enterprises as soon as possible," he added.
