A senior high school teacher in Northwest China's Gansu Province was disqualified as an educator, after the death of a 19-year-old woman believed a victim of the teacher’s harassment, the local authority announced on Tuesday.

Wu Yonghou was found sexually harassing the woman – who killed herself on June 20 – during her senior year in 2016, police said on Monday. Wu was also slapped with an administrative sanction and was demoted last year.

The woman, surnamed Li from Qingyang of Gansu Province, killed herself by jumping off a building while being encouraged by onlookers on Wednesday.

Several onlookers who were "disrespectful to life" were taken into custody, police said. Local authorities said investigations will continue.

Li suffered from depression after she was allegedly sexually harassed by the teacher. She had attempted suicide multiple times after being harassed.
