The more the US discredits China, the more it reveals its ulterior motives, a Chinese spokesperson said Wednesday, in response to US Defense Secretary Mark Esper’s accusation that China is threatening international rules during a visit to Japan.b08d77fee9af4010a163e4316a005a5f.jpg

Hua Chunying, spokeswoman for Chinese Foreign Ministry, said at regular briefing that some in the United States cling to the Cold War mentality and zero-sum game thinking, ignoring the basic facts and discrediting China. This practice is very untrue and immoral, and has ulterior motives.

“China is firmly committed to the path of peaceful development, and pursues a defensive national defense policy, while the US, with hundreds of military bases around the world, has deployed hundreds of thousands of troops outside its territory and fought several wars overseas,” said Hua.

“The international community has been aware of who is breaking international rules, and who is defending them. The more the US discredits China, the more the international community can see their ulterior motives clearly,” Hua said.
