Local authorities used giant shredders to destroy a batch of pornography and other illegal publications on Thursday morning in a tough crackdown on infringement and piracy, the office said.

According to the office, local authorities against pornographic and illegal publications have seized some 172,000 publications in the first quarter of this year, with more than 10,000 pieces of harmful online information deleted. Nearly 1000 illegal websites have been closed.

These covered 249 cases, among which 123 were criminal and 269 people were punished.

Last year more than 1 million illegal publications were seized in 471 related cases, 140 of which were criminal.
