Three Gorges reservoir facing largest flood peak in its history

As a result of heavy rainfall on the upstream portion of Yangtze River, the Three Gorges reservoir will see a 74,000-cubic-meter-per-second flood peak on August 20, the largest since its was completed in 2009, according to the Changjiang Water Resources Commission of the Ministry of Water Resources.

On Tuesday, the Hydrology Bureau of the Yangtze River Water Resources Commission renewed a red alert for floods in the upper reaches of Yangtze River. It maintained an orange alert for floods from Yibin to the Cuntan, Tuoijiang River and Bujiang River, which are also at the upper reaches of the Yangtze River. In addition, the Jialing River and Three Gorges reservoir area also received yellow alerts for floods.
