Three Gorges’ Wushan Airport passes industry standards, expected to open mid-August

The Wushan Airport construction project officially passed industry standards on Wednesday and is now qualified to operate as a civil aviation airport. It is expected to open in mid-August.

When it opens, the Wushan Airport plans to open Wushan - Chongqing, Wushan - Yantai routes.

The total investment into the Wushan Airport is 1.64 billion yuan ($233 million). It is designed to meet an annual passenger throughput of 280,000 persons per year, cargo throughput of 1,200 tons per year, and aircraft take-off and landing of 3,333 flights per year.

Wushan Airport terminal building covers 3,500 square meters, and the runway is 2,600 meters.

The terminal building has a domestic departure hall, an arrival hall, a waiting hall, a baggage claim, sorting hall and one VIP area. There are four check-in counters, three security checkpoints and one baggage claim tray. Independent parking lots and private rooms are available.

Two self-service check-in machines have been set up on the right side of the departure hall, and a baggage packing system has been installed. Face recognition systems are used in security checkpoints to help create an intelligent service processes.

The 2,600-meter long runway is equipped with a type of precision approach system and monitoring system, which can collect information, monitor and detect faults of objects distributed in the flight area. This will provide powerful technical support for automatic airport management, intelligent operation and scientific decision-making.
