Top legislator urges upholding and improving 'one country, two systems'

BEIJING, Dec. 3 (Xinhua) -- China's top legislator Li Zhanshu Tuesday called for efforts to uphold and improve "one country, two systems."

Li, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, made the remarks at a symposium marking the 20th anniversary of the implementation of the Basic Law of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR).

Li said the successful practice of "one country, two systems" with Macao's characteristics should be promoted in accordance with the Constitution and the Basic Law of the Macao SAR.

Vice Premier Han Zheng, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee also attended the symposium.
