HEFEI - Police in East China's Anhui province said Monday they have recently arrested nine suspects involved in an online gambling case.

Police in the city of Chuzhou received a tip-off last year from a local resident, who gambled away more than 600,000 yuan ($84,130) on an online gambling website.

The police then launched an investigation into the online gambling website and the flow of the gambling funds.

Following the clues, the police discovered a trans-provincial gambling gang and found more than 10 billion yuan and over 10,000 gamblers were involved in the case.

From March to September, Anhui police launched raids in Beijing, South China's Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and Central China's Henan province, arresting nine suspects.

The police said the suspects attracted gamblers via a popular online instant messaging service. The gang had illegally earned more than 50 million yuan.
