TAIYUAN, Dec. 14 (Xinhua) -- Two climbers were found dead and one injured after being stranded for hours in a scenic spot in north China's Shanxi Province, according to local authorities Monday.

The three amateur climbers became lost during heavy snow and strong winds while hiking near the peak of Mount Wutai on Sunday afternoon and called police to request a rescue.

The rescue team rushed to the scene at around 3:25 p.m. and found two of the climbers at the bottom of the mountain, with one dead and the other injured.

The body of the third hiker was found by the reinforced rescue efforts on Monday morning. The survivor has been sent to a local hospital for treatment.

The annual average temperature of Mount Wutai, at an average altitude of more than 1,000 meters, is about minus 4 degrees Celsius, and the average temperature during the coldest month of January is minus 18.8 degrees Celsius, according to meteorological data.
