Twenty medical institutions were tasked with giving the faculty and students of nearly one hundred universities in Beijing nucleic acid tests on Saturday, and issuing negative test certificates to those who have to leave the city.
This large-scale nucleic acid testing was conducted in order to stem the spread of COVID-19 to campuses, according to the National Health Commission.
“Over 100,000 individuals will be tested,” said Zhao Jing, division head of the National Health Commission, adding that the test results will be ready on Sunday.
“We will then make nucleic acid testing compulsory among all key groups of the teachers and the students in the capital,” said Di Tao, one of the heads of Beijing Municipal Committee of the CPC who is responsible for education. “Nucleic acid testing is the foundation of regular epidemic prevention and control work and is fundamental to restoring normalcy in education.”
