Urumqi's coronavirus testing capacity reaches 500,000 a day

Urumqi, Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region's capacity to test for coronavirus has reached nearly 500,000 people a day, according to local health authorities.

"A total of 6,600 medical workers from local health facilties have participated in the testing job," A local health official told the Xinjiang Daily. "The city's testing capacity has reached nearly 500,000. With our staff getting more used to the testing procedure, and more testing equipment in place, that number is expected to rise by leaps and bounds in the short term."

As of July 19, the city has conducted tests on those who were under medical observation and key groups, including residents from local communities with confirmed coronavirus cases, suspected cases, asymptomatic cases, close contacts, and those with fever.
