HOUSTON, March 15 (Xinhua) -- The United States and China need to work together to find ways for both to prosper, US senator John Cornyn told an energy conference on Friday.

"We need to find ways for both China and the United States to rise for their economy and provide opportunities, new jobs and prosperity for their own people. It takes a lot of hard work but I think we can do that," Cornyn said at the 38th CERAWeek by IHS Markit, which began Monday in the fourth largest US city.

During a dialogue with Daniel Yergin, Vice Chairman of IHS Markit, Cornyn said trade friction is not good for any party involved. "I don't see a trade war will benefit anybody," said the former Republican Senate Majority Whip, hoping that the two countries can resolve the trade friction soon.

The five-day CERAWeek gathered more than 4,500 guests and speakers in the energy, technology and financial sectors from more than 70 countries and regions this year.

There is a special dialogue on China as well as several discussions designed to focus on Asian and Chinese energy market since China has become one of the largest energy consumption economies in the world.
