The Chinese delegation is headed by Vice Premier Liu He, while US Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer and Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, are heading the US side.
The meeting is aimed at implementing the consensus reached by the leaders of the two countries on the sidelines of last month's G20 summit in Japan.
Shanghai was where the China-US joint communique was signed in 1972.
