The US should look in the mirror before criticizing China, Ministry of National Defense spokesperson Wu Qian said at a regular press conference in Beijing on Thursday.

The spokesperson’s remarks came after the US Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro said earlier this month that China was America’s "most significant pacing threat" and the US should build its own naval fleet in response to Chinese expansion.

US media also reported the Chinese military was building missile targets in the shape of an American aircraft carrier.

“Those who cling on hegemony always think others are trying to take them over,” Wu said, “For too long some Americans are trapped in a paranoid delusion and insist on making up the so-called ‘Chinese military threat’ so as to maintain its decided edge in the military field and secure its hegemony in the world.”

Wu said the US has adopted a wrong policy due to its serious misconception about China, which the Chinese military strongly opposes.

“Regarding the issue of missile targeting, the US should look in the mirror before criticising China,” Wu said.
