HANOI, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- Vietnam reported 9,180 new COVID-19 cases on Friday, including 9,150 local infections and 30 imported cases, according to the country's Ministry of Health.
The new infections brought the total tally to 255,748, with 5,088 deaths, the ministry said.
Most of the community cases were detected in southern Vietnam, including 3,531 in the epicenter Ho Chi Minh City, 2,816 in the nearby Binh Duong province, and 808 in Dong Nai province.
As many as 92,738 COVID-19 patients have so far recovered, up 3,593 from Thursday, while 13 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been administered nationwide, according to the ministry.
As of Friday, Vietnam has registered a total of 253,323 domestically transmitted COVID-19 cases, including 251,753 detected since the start of the current wave in late April, the ministry said.
