WUHAN, Feb. 14 (Xinhua) -- Another gymnasium-converted makeshift hospital was put into use in Wuhan, the epicenter of the coronavirus outbreak in central China's Hubei Province on Friday afternoon.

It is the first makeshift hospital fully supported by doctors and medical workers of traditional Chinese medicine, with a staff of 209 from 20 traditional Chinese medicine hospitals across five provinces.

The hospital is now capable of receiving 400 patients and another 400 beds will be added after the ongoing construction is completed, said Liu Qingquan, head of the makeshift hospital.

"Traditional Chinese medicine and treatments have proved effective in curing mild cases infected with novel coronavirus," said Zhang Boli, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering.

Besides medication, the makeshift hospital also provides acupuncture treatment and organizes activities such as shadowboxing to help boost the immunity of patients, said Zhang.

Wuhan said Friday that traditional Chinese medicine will be used to treat all non-critical patients at designated and temporary hospitals citywide.
