Visitor arrivals to Macao down 10.9 pct in November

MACAO, Dec. 29 (Xinhua) -- The visitor arrivals to Macao totaled 2.91 million in November 2019, down 10.9 percent year-on-year, the special administrative region (SAR)'s statistic department said here on Sunday.

The latest report from Statistics and Census Service (DSEC) indicated that the same-day visitors and overnight visitors dropped 10.5 percent and 11.4 percent respectively year-on-year to 1.50 million and 1.41 million.

The average length of stay of visitors remained steady year-on-year at 1.2 days. The overnight visitors extended their stay by 0.2 day to 2.4 days, while the duration for same-day visitors stood at 0.2 day.

The visitors from Chinese mainland decreased 11.1 percent year-on-year to 2.0 million, with those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme falling 14.9 percent to 898,715.

The visitors from South Korea (42,968) and the Hong Kong SAR (571,071) dropped 36.5 percent and 3.4 percent respectively, whereas those from China's Taiwan region (83,006) went up by 1.1 percent.

Analyzed by mode of transport, the visitor arrivals by land went down 5.9 percent year-on-year to 2.18 million in November, with those arriving through the Border Gate and via the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge decreasing 3.3 percent and 19.8 percent respectively.

The visitor arrivals by sea declined 39.0 percent year-on-year to 413,775, while those by air rose 16.7 percent to 318,255.

In the first 11 months of 2019, the visitor arrivals reached 36.32 million, a growth of 12.7 percent year-on-year.

The same-day visitors and overnight visitors increased 23.8 percent and 2.4 percent respectively to 19.17 million and 17.16 million.

The average length of stay of visitors remained the same year-on-year at 1.2 days, with that of overnight visitors (2.2 days) and same-day visitors (0.2 day) staying unchanged.

The visitors from the Chinese mainland (25.83 million), the Hong Kong SAR (6.70 million) and China's Taiwan region (983,641) rose 13.2 percent, 18.6 percent and 1.6 percent respectively, while those from South Korea (696,123) dropped by 5.4 percent.

The visitors from the United States (185,098), Canada (68,382) and Britain (55,342) recorded year-on-year growth, whereas those from Australia (76,716) saw a decrease.
