Five college applicants sat gaokao, or national college entry exams, using Braille test papers on Tuesday, according to the Ministry of Education.

The blind or visually impaired students are from Shanxi and Anhui provinces, Tibet autonomous region and the city of Shanghai, the ministry said.

The two students in Tibet used Braille test papers in the Tibetan language, it added.

Examinees with visual disabilities enjoy an extension of the exam duration by 50 percent, because they spend more time by using Braille papers, but are not entitled to other favorable policies, the ministry said.
