Beijing has 47 wetland areas totaling 58,700 hectares, the city's gardening and greening bureau announced on Tuesday, the 25th World Wetlands Day.

This year, the city plans to restore 1,000 hectares of wetlands. During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-20), the city restored wetlands totaling 11,000 hectares.

In May 2013, the city's legislative body made regulations on wetlands protection, including strict punishment for damaging them.
