A wild giant panda was photographed by an infrared camera in Mianzhu city, southwest China's Sichuan Province.

The camera was set up in the wild by the Jiudingshan Nature Reserve of Sichuan Province.

“This is the first time that a wild panda has been photographed in Mianzhu city. This means that the giant pandas in the region are living in good conditions and the vegetation and ecological environment in the nature reserve have been significantly improved,” said Liao Liang, deputy director of Mianzhu Management Station of the nature reserve.

Liao and his colleagues carefully observed the giant panda videos and photos, drawing the conclusion that it is an adult giant panda, weighing between 80 and 150 kilograms with a strong body and clean fur.

Wild giant pandas are believed to live in the depths of the nature reserve far from the village and it is difficult to photograph them. 

To better collect wildlife activity data in the nature reserve, the Mianzhu Management Station has on two occasions installed infrared cameras for monitoring wildlife, and the photographic data has been collected twice.

Zheng Xiong, director of the Management Department of the nature reserve, said that the video and images further demonstrate the existence of wild giant pandas in the nature reserve and provide an important basis for better protecting the ecology.
