The world economic recovery should not be damaged and people all over the world have no responsibility for the geopolitical conflict and power game, China said on Friday regarding China’s food imports from Ukraine.

Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Wang Wenbin made the remarks at a press briefing in Beijing in response to a question about Chinese food security as the Russia-Ukraine situation deteriorates.

The situation in Ukraine would impact the global economy and trade, finance, energy, food industry chains and supply chains, Wang noted.

“It will seriously affect the normal life of people around the world and worsen the already grave world economy,” he said.

China would continue to play a constructive role in easing the situation in Ukraine and was ready to strengthen communication and cooperation with all countries to inject more positive energy into the stable, sound and sustainable development of the world economy, Wang said.

“The momentum of world economic recovery should not be undermined, and people of all countries are not responsible for paying for geopolitical conflicts and big power games,” he said.
