On Sunday in Ali, Tibet, a town that sits above 4,000 meters,  cyclists gathered to compete in what is the highest altitude race of its kind.

With a setting featuring the gorgeous Mapam Yumco Lake and the legendary Gang Rinpoche Mountains, it hardly sounds grueling, yet the race could be one of the toughest based on the altitude alone.

Cyclists traveled from all parts of the country to participate in the unique competition.
