Chinese President Xi Jinping made an inspection tour of Lanzhou, capital city of Northwest China's Gansu Province, on Wednesday afternoon.

He visited a pumping station on the Yellow River, learning about river management and preservation, as well as construction of dam reinforcement and flood control facilities.

The Yellow River, China's second longest river after the Yangtze, is regarded as the cradle of Chinese civilization. 

He then inspected the Duzhe Publishing and Media Co Ltd, the publisher of China's well-known semi-monthly magazine Duzhe (Reader).
