Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday called for grasping the development opportunities of big data and for the challenges in data security and cyberspace governance to be handled through international cooperation and exchanges.

Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks in a congratulatory letter sent to the China International Big Data Industry Expo, held from May 26 to 29 in Guiyang, capital of southwest China's Guizhou Province.

Facing up to the challenges from data safety and cyberspace control, Xi urges international cooperation in making efforts to promote the healthy development of the big data industry.

Xi emphasized that China values the development of big data, adding that China always upholds the development concepts of innovation, coordination, green-tech, open-mindedness and mutual sharing and pledges to strengthen the nation's Internet security and build it into a strong cyber power.

For the representatives and guests attending the expo, Xi hoped that they could pool the wisdom to promote sound development of the big data industry, serving the high goal of building a community of shared future for mankind.
