Chinese President Xi Jinping will attend a ceremony in Beijing marking the completion and launching of BeiDou-3 global navigation network on Friday.

China's Satellite Navigation System Management Office on Wednesday said the 55th satellite of the BeiDou Navigation Satellite System (BDS), the last one in the BDS-3 constellation, has started operating in the network after completing in-orbit tests and evaluation.

Similar to the Global Positioning System (GPS), the network will offer users positioning, navigation and timing services.
