China-El Salvador relations

China and El Salvador established diplomatic ties on Aug. 21, 2018. Chinese President Xi Jinping said the two countries have opened up a new chapter in relations.

Slightly more than two months after China and El Salvador forged diplomatic ties, bilateral exchanges have progressed rapidly in various fields with strong vitality and robust momentum.

At present, China is already the second largest source of imports for El Salvador, and its exports to China have also grown strongly. A number of Chinese projects that are in line with El Salvador's development strategy and will benefit local people's livelihood are moving ahead, with some already bearing fruit.

On June 1 local time, Chinese envoy and Vice Foreign Minister Qin Gang attended the inauguration ceremony of Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele. Before that, the official Twitter account of the "Nuevas Ideas" party uploaded photos and videos of recent meetings between the two, and commented that the new president "ensures a great future for relations between China and El Salvador."

The Chinese side will cooperate with El Salvador in infrastructure in a government-guided, enterprise-led, market-based and mutually-beneficial way. "China is willing to join hands with El Salvador to promote friendly cooperation in a speedy yet steady manner, so as to benefit the two peoples," Xi said.
