'Better Days' leads Chinese mainland box office

BEIJING, Nov. 1 (Xinhua) -- Domestic drama film "Better Days" topped the Chinese mainland box office with more than 52 million yuan (about 7.38 million U.S. dollars) on Thursday, the China Movie Data Information Network said Friday.

Accounting for over 56 percent of the daily tally on the seventh day of its screening, the film, directed by Derek Tsang, tells the story of two high school students whose fates were changed by an accident.

It was followed by "My People, My Country," a domestic blockbuster celebrating the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, totaling more than 2.8 billion yuan since its debut on Sept. 30.

Coming in third was "The Captain," a cinematic portrayal of a miraculous emergency landing of the Sichuan Airlines flight 3U8633 in May 2018. It pocketed 5.89 million yuan on the 32nd day of its screening.
