"My People, My Country," a film recalling important historical moments in China over the past seven decades, was the October box office champion on the Chinese mainland, generating 2.86 billion yuan (about 407 million U.S. dollars), according to the film's official Weibo account.

A seven-part epic anthology by seven directors led by Chen Kaige, the film ranked fourth on the 2019 Chinese mainland box office chart and ninth on the all-time box office chart in the same market, noted the Weibo post, echoing figures from the China Movie Data Information Network.

Debuting on Sept. 30, a day ahead of the National Day, as a gift for the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China, "My People, My Country" was the top-grossing film screened during the National Day holiday in China's history, it added.

The moments depicted by the film include the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, China's successful test of its first atomic bomb, the return of Hong Kong to the motherland in 1997, the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and the safe return to Earth of the crew members of the Shenzhou 11 manned mission in 2016.
