An exhibition showing the evolution of Chinese water and ink painting over the past four decades opened at Beijing Minsheng Art Museum.

Curator Lu Hong says the exhibition will display around 200 paintings divided into three categories according to the timeline.

Lu said the exhibition has research value since Chinese water and ink painting is a symbol of Chinese culture and plays an important role in China's cultural exchanges with other nations.

A typical Chinese watercolor painting by Li Keran, a prominent figure in 20th-century Chinese art is now on display at the "New Ink Art in China 1978-2018" exhibition at the Beijing Minsheng Art Museum.

A highlight of the exhibition is the development of water and ink paintings based on the absorption of western approaches since China began implementing the reform and opening up policy 40 years ago.

The selected works are all valuable collections from provincial and state-level museums and art galleries. The exhibition will run until February next year.

Visitors appreciate the "New Ink Art in China 1978-2018" exhibition in Beijing. The exhibition will run until Feb 23, 2019.
