This black leopard, also known as a black penther or black jaguar, was photographed by carefully placed trail cameras in Kenya.

The last photo of a black leopard in Africa was taken in 1909.

Black leopards are black due to melanism, a gene mutation that makes the coat appear completely black.

Most sightings of them have occurred in Southeast Asia.
