A new high in North America

The Disney and Marvel’s superhero epic "Avengers: Infinity War" continued to dominate the early summer box office over the weekend – it earned $112.5 million  from 4,474 locations in its second frame.

The 56 percent decline was just enough to top the record previously held by fellow Marvel title “Black Panther,” which made $111.6 million in its second weekend. “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” holds the prize for biggest second weekend, with a mighty $149 million in 2015. Only five films have ever hit the $100 million mark in their second weekends.

Globally, "Avengers" has hit the one-billion-US-dollar mark in just 11 days – the fastest ever – and it has yet to open in China.

China sees another record for its presale

Eight days before "Avengers" opens in China, the film has already set a record in presale tickets.

Box office sales of the move have surpassed 100 million yuan ($15.71 million) in China at its presale stage by May 3, according to Maoyan, a major China film database.

Over 45 million yuan was for screenings next Friday, the film's opening day, when the film is estimated to take up 96.5 percent of total screenings, according to Maoyan.

The Avengers series has been a sensation in the Chinese film market. Released in May 2012, "The Avengers" raked in 568.5 million yuan, while "Avengers: Age of Ultron," which hit the screens three years later, grossed over 1.46 billion yuan.
