Beijing's Gubei Water Town celebrates Chinese New Year in blaze of dancing colors

Beijing's Gubei Water Town is celebrating the lunar new year at the foot of the Great Wall with a festive plethora of fun activities.

Some visitors are writing Spring Festival couplets, hammering copper coins and molding dough figures.

Vendors ply festive products at the foot of the Simatai Great Wall.

Others are following a “Guardian of the Great Wall,” wearing nearly18 kilos of armor, up Simatai Great Wall to welcome the Year of the Ox.

A “Guardian of the Great Wall (right)”, hefting 18 kilos of armor, accompanies a visitor at Spring Festival.

And as night falls, more than 100 Kongming lantern drones are painting patterns across the night sky in synergy with the lights of Simatai Great Wall.
