The Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) Art Museum is currently hosting an exhibition of art by Wang Qi, one of the most important figures in Chinese contemporary art history.

"Wang's rich experience, theories and accomplishments mean he can be called an 'encyclopedia of Chinese modern art, '" said Fan Di'an, president of CAFA, at the opening of exhibition on Friday.

Carving a Century: An Exhibition Commemorating Wang Qi's 100th Birthday features a total of 140 pieces of Wang's artworks, ranging from print paintings, sketches and water color paintings to calligraphy works. Dozens of documents from Wang's long art career are also on display.

Wang's family members have also donated many of his works to the academy's permanent collection.

The exhibition will end on February 25.
