Chinese embroiderer Chen Yinghua uses Chinese traditional needlework techniques to create artworks of starry sky and clouds, which were exhibited at the opening ceremony of 2021 China Space Conference to celebrate Space Day of China. Chen has been doing Su silk embroidery for over 30 years and created 26 pieces of space embroidery artwork in 18 years with at least 10 stitching skills and over 4,000 colors and silk threads. Chen’s embroidery pieces of the starry sky were exhibited at 28th International Astronomical Union Conference and attracts worldwide attention. The US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has offered to buy Chen’s artworks several times. However, she hopes her artworks would stay in Chinese museums to tell the Chinese public how extraordinary space is.
