Adapted from the comic book Yanshifan, the show follows a troop of young people called "yanshi" as they make every effort to save the country during the late Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) and the early Republic of China period (1912-49). At the press conference, Huang said that his eight-month filming the role of Chong Liming lead him to appreciate the sacrifice and devotion of people during that time period. "Chong Liming is a person who suffered a lot, so I was very depressed while filming," said Huang.
When talking about the cast and crew, Huang noted that the entire team got along very well and many of them remained friends after production finished.
"I love this team so much," he said.
In addition to airing on BTV, Yanshifan: New Youth will also come to streaming platforms Youku and Mango TV.
