The International Dance Video Unit of the 30th Beijing College Student Film Festival (BCSFF) and the 2023 Young Artists Platform of Dance (YAP) Festival officially commenced in Beijing on Thursday, coinciding with the Youth Day.
Hosted by the Organizing Committee of the BCSFF and running alongside the Beijing International Film Festival (BJIFF), the event was undertaken by Beijing Normal University (BNU) 's Art and Technology Innovation Center and co-organized by BNU's Film and Television Media Department and Dance Department. It was also endorsed by the China Dancers Association (CDA) and received academic support from the Korean Dancers Association and the Seoul Dance Film Committee.
As the YAP Festival celebrates its 10th year, dance videos, a novel form of artistic expression and communication in dance using digital technology and online media, have come to exemplify the thriving integration and symbiosis of art and technology. Since the establishment of the dance video unit within the YAP Festival in 2016, its objectives have been to discover and nurture creators with unique perspectives, provide creative funding, and establish a platform to showcase the artistic characteristics and dynamism of dance and video.
This year, the YAP Festival will feature representative dance video works from previous editions and go beyond the confines of the theater. Through the lens of cameras, the festival will depict portraits of dancers and explore innovative avenues for expressing dance and envisioning the future of dance and video. A touring exhibition will also be launched in various parts of the country, offering additional video works, guided tours, discussions, and practical creation workshops to engage with a wider audience.
