Hong Kong kung fu star Donnie Yen said he was proud to be Chinese in an interview about his role in John Wick: Chapter 4 with the UK GQ magazine.

Born in Guangzhou, Yen, 60, star of Tiger Cage, In the Line of Duty IV and the Ip Man franchise, said he was amazed at the progress of his motherland during his lifetime.

Most outsiders don’t see China’s modernization unless they visit, Yen was quoted as saying.

“I have been in so many countries in the world, but it’s not even close,” he said. “The progress: the freeways, the architecture, the convenience of lifestyle.”

Yen complained about bias in China coverage.

“The BBC, CNN, they never talk about that,” he said. “They never mention the true side of it. But I’m there, you know?”
