A group of five precious Chinese white dolphins was spotted in waters near the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge, maritime officials from south China's Guangdong Province reported on Tuesday.

The landmark project, which was officially launched on Tuesday, sits in the Lingdingyang waters of the Pearl River Estuary, the biggest natural habitat of the white dolphins.

Chinese officials say they paid extra attention to protect the eco-system of the Lingdingyang waters as the bridge's construction was underway.

It's very likely that travelers can see the activities of white dolphins, the "giant panda in the sea," while crossing the bridge.
