NEW YORK, April 27 (Xinhua) -- The New York City-based Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) will establish a new collection documenting the acts of generosity and support of the Chinese in the United States during the outbreak of COVID-19, the museum announced on Monday.

The MOCA OneWorld COVID-19 Special Collection will record and exhibit the efforts of thousands of Chinese and people of Chinese descent here who have been raising money, procuring or donating personal protective equipment to assist those in need, especially frontline healthcare workers and police, in fighting the pandemic, according to the museum.

The museum will acquire a wide range of artifacts, including photographs, videos, letters, medical records, certificates, and oral histories. Besides stories of community efforts, the collection will also highlight experiences of individuals and families during these unprecedented times.

The MOCA said a major goal of establishing the exhibition is to counter the racial discrimination against Asian Americans that has been on the rise in the country since the COVID-19 outbreak occurred.

"MOCA stands against racism in the classroom, on the streets, in all places. MOCA knows that the history of racism against Chinese Americans, Japanese Americans, and those mistaken for these groups is largely missing in textbooks. These omissions are unacceptable," said Nancy Yao Maasbach, president of the museum.

"MOCA works tirelessly to share these painful episodes and document the occurrences, and now through its OneWorld Collection it will celebrate resilience and perseverance," she added.

Founded in 1980, the MOCA is dedicated to preserving and presenting the history, culture and diverse experiences of people of Chinese descent in the United States.
