A ceremony was held in Central China city of Xinzheng on Sunday to pay tribute to the Yellow Emperor, a legendary figure traditionally seen as the ancestor of the Chinese people.

The Yellow Emperor is credited with creating the Huaxia Tribal Union, a confederation of clans living along the banks of the Yellow River about 5,000 years ago.

Xinzheng in Henan Province is considered the hometown of the Yellow Emperor.

It is a tradition to worship the Yellow Emperor during the Tomb Sweeping Festival, which falls on April 5 this year.

The event has been held annually in Xinzheng since 2006.

With the ongoing COVID-19 epidemic, many people did not attend in person but instead saw the ceremony through an online platform.
