The video “Much more to discover about China” which explores Xijiang Miao Village, the country’s largest Miao ethnic minority village, beat more than 19,000 entries to win first prize in the People’s Daily “My China Style” Global Short Video Contest.

A professional jury and online voting combined to award second prize to three works: “A Bank for Time,” a story of Chongqing memory, “Mints in Memory,” a short documentary focusing on traditional craftsmen and “Children who grew up abroad also have bonds with China,” which featured sugar painting.

“The road to school” and “China in Song” came third and 20 works including “Charms of the lion dance” and “Magic with modeling dough” won honorable mentions. Kuaishou, Visual China group, the Canadian Federation of Chinese Students and 17 other organizations won best organizer awards.

Hosted by the People’s Daily and undertaken by the People’s Daily New Media Center, the contest aimed to discover unique perspectives and high-quality video works that showcase to the world a prosperous, vibrant and inclusive Chinese culture.

Submissions began March 31 and more than 600 overseas media platforms reported on a contest which eventually accumulated over 2 billion hits.

People’s Daily New Media Center cooperated with Kuaishou, Douyin, Visual China Group, Pear Video, Youku, iQiyi, Tencent Video, Baidu and other platforms in releasing contest news, special columns and displaying premium entries.

Drawing inspiration from Chinese arts, scenery and cuisine, entrants from different countries told stories about China Style through their lens with videos including dragon and lion dances, jade carvings and Ciqikou ancient town.
