The American University in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq, was attacked on Tuesday morning, the Iranian Press TV reported, but the US and Israel have yet to comment on the issue.

In recent days, Iran has issued strong condemnations and taken clear response measures over successive attacks by the US and Israel on its universities and scientific research institutions.

Iranian ministers of science and health issued a joint statement condemning the US and Israel for launching a series of attacks on multiple Iranian universities and scientific research institutions since March 2026, the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) reported on Monday.

The statement pointed out that institutions including the University of Science and Technology, the Faculty of Pharmacy at Shiraz University, Isfahan University of Technology and the Science and Technology Park of Urmia University have become targets, which have severely damaged Iran's educational and research infrastructure and caused casualties among researchers and teaching staff.

It also criticized the US and Israel for taking such acts as part of their continuous moves to undermine Iran's academic environment, following the previous assassinations of Iranian scientists and successive attacks that have claimed the lives of Iranian university students and professors.

"In fact, the American-Israeli aggression against Iran continues to reveal its true objective: to cripple our country's scientific foundation and cultural heritage by systematically targeting universities, research centers, historical monuments and prominent scientists," Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei said in a post on social media platform X on Sunday night.

Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) issued an ultimatum March 29 to the US government through Iranian official media, demanding the US side to issue an official statement condemning the bombing of Iranian universities by 12:00 Tehran time on Monday.

The IRGC also warned that if the demand was not met, it would launch retaliatory actions against US universities in West Asia, designating such institutions as legitimate targets in response to the US-Israel attacks on Iranian academic facilities.
