BANGKOK, July 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese film "Dear You" is set to premiere in cinemas across Thailand on Aug. 6, bringing a highly anticipated story of migration and memory to Southeast Asian audiences following its successful box office run in China, Thai film distributors said on Wednesday.
According to Sahamongkolfilm International, the full-scale rollout is designed to reach diverse audiences throughout the country, offering an exploration of overseas Chinese identity, the power of love, and the true meaning of family to the hearts of Thai viewers.
To preserve its cultural authenticity while ensuring broad accessibility, Thai theaters will offer the original Teochew dialect version with Thai and Mandarin subtitles, alongside a Thai-dubbed version featuring English subtitles.
The film, known as "Love Letters to Grandma" in Chinese, centers on Xiaowei, a young man who travels to Thailand to find his long-lost grandfather, only to discover a trove of decades-old letters revealing secrets of romance, sacrifice, filial piety, and the enduring bonds of family.
Set against the distinct backdrop of Teochew Chinese culture, the narrative highlights the historic diaspora experience, capturing universal themes of displacement, nostalgia, and memories passed down through generations.
"With its deeply emotional, heartwarming narrative and focus on core family values, we believe 'Dear You' will resonate deeply with viewers of all generations," the distributors said in a statement.
