On the Bashang grassland in Zhangjiakou, Hebei Province, the wind brushes the tips of the grass. Cattle and sheep graze with heads down, while horses stroll in the distance. A pig nibbles on a piece of watermelon; a cat curls up against a wall in the sun; and a puppy sits idly – each lost in their own world, none in a hurry. Birds skim across the lake; crickets chirp endlessly in the grass; and bees dive headfirst into wild flowers, busy gathering nectar. No fences, no rush – the grass grows; the wind blows; and they all live at their own pace. On this grassland, every species simply lives in its own way – neither chasing time, nor being chased by it.
