China's 2026 summer box office, including presales, has exceeded 7 billion yuan (about $1.03 billion) as of Saturday, according to the online box office tracker.
More than 120 domestic and international films are set to be released during this year's summer filmgoing season, spanning a wide range of genres such as historical drama, comedy, action, animation and science fiction.
Driven by the "2026 Film Economy Promotion Year" initiative launched by the China Film Administration in collaboration with relevant departments, the country's film sector has boosted consumption growth. Estimates indicate that the total output value of the film industry chain has exceeded 340 billion yuan so far this year.
