BUDAPEST, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- The 2026 Sziget Festival officially opened to the public on Tuesday on Budapest's Obuda Island, bringing together music, arts and cultural programs from Hungary and abroad.

Running until Aug. 15, this year's festival provided around 12 themed districts offering music, contemporary arts, circus performances, sports, family and community programs.

Organizers have introduced additional measures this year to tackle dust caused by prolonged dry weather and improve visitors' comfort.

The festival has also expanded shaded rest areas, air-conditioned community spaces, misting gates and drinking water points. More than 10 hectares of naturally shaded green areas are available to visitors.

Chief organizer Karoly Gerendai said during a pre-opening site tour that daily attendance was expected to reach around 70,000 to 75,000, below the festival site's maximum capacity of 95,000.

Established in 1993, Sziget has grown into one of Europe's major music and cultural festivals, attracting visitors from more than 100 countries and regions. Its record attendance was registered in 2018, when 565,000 people visited the festival.
