The 21st Changchun Film Festival is officially underway in northeast China's Jilin Province. Opening under the theme "New Era, New Cradle, New Force," the flagship six-day event celebrates Changchun's historical legacy as the birthplace of modern Chinese cinema, while shining a bright spotlight on emerging talent.
The opening ceremony paid tribute to local film roots through dance performances and volunteer showcases, linking classic screen memories with modern urban identity. Running through August 28, a new campaign is taking cinema beyond the screen with nearly 500 screenings, public movie vouchers, and the vibrant Light and Shadow Market along historic Xinmin Avenue.
Chaired by director Feng Xiaogang, the jury panel is reviewing 16 shortlisted titles – including The Volunteers: Peace at Last, Blades of the Guardians, and Dear You – competing across 10 Golden Deer Awards categories, with winners to be announced at the closing ceremony.
