A total of 22 dramas will be staged in theaters in Beijing and other major cities such as Shanghai, Tianjin and Nanjing during the 2020 National Drama Show Season, which kicks off on Saturday.

The opening show will be a theater version of the film Battle on Shangganling Mountain at Beijing's Poly Theater. The drama tells the heroic story of Chinese volunteer soldiers fighting the Battle of Shangganling Mountain, aka Triangle Hill. The drama aims to commemorate the 70th anniversary of the Chinese People's Volunteer Army entering the Korean War (1950-53).

Hosted by the Beijing Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism and Beijing's Dongcheng district government, the season will see the participation of China's top theaters and performance companies like the National Theatre of China.

Another highlight of the season is the new show Post-Thunderstorm from French theater director Eric Lacascade, an adaptation of Chinese writer Cao Yu's masterpiece Thunderstorm.

The season will run until the end of January 2021.
