The Palace Museum reopened its indoor exhibition halls to the public on Tuesday after Beijing contained the most recent COVID-19 outbreak.

The permanent exhibition halls, including the Treasure Gallery, the Gallery of Clocks, Palace of Compassion and Tranquility (Cining gong), and Six Western and Six Eastern Palaces greeted visitors for the first time after more than 170 days.

The exhibits in halls such as Hall of Martial Valor (Wuying dian) and Hall of Literary Brilliance (Wenhua dian) will be gradually reopened.

The reopening followed a downgrade of Beijing’s public health emergency response level on Monday, expanding the reopening area from the outdoor space starting in May to the indoor exhibits.

The maximum number of daily reservations has been raised from 8,000 to 12,000, the museum’s website shows.

Visitors will have to make reservations online and obey the epidemic prevention and control rules, such as health code checks, temperature taking, social distancing and mask-wearing.
